typically.pretty.wish list 11/13

I haven't made a wish list for a while as I haven't had much time to browse on Etsy for inspiration, but today I have managed to spend a little while peeking at all the lovely things on offer. As I have been dreaming of my beautiful St. Ives recently the pieces I have chosen to share are all sea foam frothy and cool blues. I am looking forward to extending my summer a little longer by visiting Cornwall in October, can you tell?

I would like to give this as a gift...

New Jewellery

Hello lovelies, well hasn't it been a miserable couple of days here in old blighty, I am really missing that sunshine! However, this has meant that I have had to knuckle down and get on with some new designs instead of swanning about in the sun.
As you may or may not already know much of my work is inspired by fairytales and fanciful tales, and these new pieces are taken from two of my favourite stories.

"I SHOULD LIKE TO GIVE YOU A KISS"

This is what Wendy said to Peter Pan before handing him a thimble from her pocket. It is the perfect whimsical symbol of love, a thimble kiss.

When Alice fell down the rabbit hole she found a table with a tiny key upon it, this key was to a little door that led to Wonderland.

These two pendants are available now in my Etsy shop and will be added to my Folksy shop very soon.

Explore52 30/13

A couple of weeks ago I got to spend the day with Boris, one of my favourite little girls. Obviously not her real name - that would be cruel - it's just my affectionate nickname for her, some of you Brits may see where it comes from by her hair?!
Anyway we spent the day eating ice cream and basically running around like loons, particularly when we visited Beazers Maze by the weir in Bath. It is often missed as an attraction, but this little mosaic maze is a great place to run around and be a kid for a while.

Quick notice!

Just letting my loyal readers know that I'm offline a day or two this week, I will be back ASAP. Thank you for sticking with me, I love you for it xx

Another Fun Market Day

Hey ladies and gents, I realise I have been MIA, sorry, so here are a few pics from the Alma Vale Summer Fare in Bristol which I attended on Sunday to get back in the swing of things. I didn't make my fortune at this market but a great day was had and the community spirit of this quiet corner of Clifton was wonderful to see. The day was sponsored by The Alma Tavern Theatre and I would highly recommend you visit them sometime as the staff, food and atmosphere are top notch.

The hog roast and live music meant the street filled with ale loving peeps and Mother A and I were kept in good spirits by our 'neighbours' at the Heartfelt vintage shop. Mandy supplied us with tea and biscuits in beautiful china and Anthony, who took the pic of us behind the stall, provided interesting chatter of his beautiful illustrations and work as a fashion psychic. Just a great day really.

Markets

Been busy the past couple of days making stock for the Alma Vale Summer Fayre in Clifton, Bristol, and I am now sitting enjoying a pint of Gem Bath Ale in the Alma Tavern Theatre. We decided on a recognisance mission to see what the place is like and I am not disappointed, such a nice chilled out bar. Please come along to the party on Sunday if you like the idea of live music, artisan sellers and a hog roast from 11am - 8pm. Sounds pretty perfect to me.

Explore52 29/13

As this heatwave continues for a little longer the only thing I want to do is drink iced drinks or eat ice cream in the sun, so my explore52 this week is one of the green spaces in Bath City centre. Queen's Square is a small 'park' in the heart of the city where you will find many an office worker lounging on their lunch break on sunny days, it is surrounded on all sides by Bath's famous Georgian architecture making it a delightful place to sit and unwind.

Where do you like to hang out at lunchtime?

Explore52 28/13

Hey peeps, hope you are getting plenty of sun, it is still shining here in Bath - yay!
I went for a stroll today and whilst walking stopped to admire the writing that can be found in the paving. I thought I would share this as my explore52 this week as sometimes you really need to take time to stop and see the details that you usually miss in your busy lives.

10 things - inspired by Miss Indie

So I'm being a bit rubbish blog wise of late, too busy designing and being excited about things happening to my business (the pic above is my excited/full of cheek face btw) but look at the pretty things that are in the pipeline though, worth the distraction?

Because of this I didn't schedule a post for today and instead I am responding to a cute post by one of my favourite bloggers Miss Indie. Her post here tells her readers 10 things they may not know about her, cute, so here are 10 things about me that you neither need or may not want to know but I'm gonna tell you anyway!

  1. I have a total obsession for pirates, when I was a kid that is what I wanted to be and as an adult I'm not ashamed to say that Jack Sparrow makes me swoon - rum soaked and all!
  2. I love to dance whenever the mood takes me. I am often found jiggling and jiving around my studio.
  3. Throughout my teenage years and a little beyond I was lucky enough to be involved with a hot air balloon team. My parents and I would crew for the Bath City balloon and I was so lucky to fly many times. I've not been up for a long time and do really miss it sometimes.
  4. I am an only child, but when I was 11 years old I met Amanda (also an only child) and we are pretty much sisters. Nobody knows how to make me laugh like that girl, love her.
  5. My favourite thing to do when I have an hour to spare if I am in town is to sit on the floor of the Abbey Courtyard, with my back against the Abbey wall, cup of tea in hand and people watch whilst listening to the Bath buskers.
  6. I love watching old movies, from old school Hollywood glamour through to the 80s classics but I am constantly berated for never having seen the biggest hits like Star Wars and Jaws!
  7. Even though I loooovvveee my home city something is always drawing me to the coast, particularly Cornwall. Whenever I go there it feels like I have arrived home.
  8. I used to be able to speak basic Italian but I have forgotten most of it, one day I would love to learn it again and maybe live in Italy for a while, there's nothing I don't love about that country - the food, the scenery, the history, the boys - it's all good!
  9. Apparently my black/brown hair and blue eyes (they actually change colour depending on the light) are due to my mix of celtic Welsh and gypsy heritage. We have been told that on my mothers side that we are descended from Romany gypsies and my grandmother was from the Welsh valleys. This may also explain my intuition for things like when people are going to have a baby etc (I swear I always know before I'm actually told).
  10. I am auntie gemmer/gem gems to like 15 kids and I love every single one of them. They may all be under 7 years old but they are my little gang of pals and one of my fave things to do is whoop them up into a frenzy and then send them back to their mums, hilarious!
I hope these little snippets about me didn't bore you too much but I quite enjoyed sharing them with you.
Why don't you share yours?

My Studio - commissions

I love getting the chance to put people's thoughts and ideas into real pieces of wearable art, when someone asks me to make a commission piece neither of us know how it will look for sure but it is great when a design comes to life and exceeds mine and my customers expectations.
This happened last week when someone asked me to put together some 18th birthday gifts. The drawings my customer gave me were tweaked and given a twist of my personal style and eventually came to life, both of us were thrilled with the outcome. See what you think...

Does your craft ever surprise you?

Explore52 27/13

Oh Lordy I have been so busy in last few days I completely forgot to post my explore52 on Friday, sorry peeps! So here it is and it is another little cheat I'm afraid as I am posting not about Bath, but Bristol, which is a short 10 minute train ride from my city.

I have recently taken stock to be sold in the pop up shop Paper.Scissors.Stone in Bristol city centre, whilst there I was able to send some time with some pals chilling at the harbour side and looking out for the painted Gromits that are dotted around the city for the summer.

There were also some roses dotted along the waterside for people to take. The label attached to each rose instructed us to take them to a local gallery (the Arnolfini) and exchange it for a gift, so we did and received these little paper boats by an artist. They have messages inside but I've not read mine yet.

Anyhoo, I hope you are all having a super weekend xx

My Studio - day of design

Hey, how's your week so far? Monday was glorious here but it has clouded over a little since. I'm hoping the sun will come back as we are heading to a July 4th picnic tomorrow. I know none of us are from the States but with the American Museum on my doorstep it'd be rude not to join in the celebrations, right?

This week has seen me delivering stock to Paper. Scissors. Stone in Quaker's Friars, Bristol, where I am going to be selling for the summer season of the pop up shop. I'm really excited by this as the store looks very slick with many other artisan makers I admire. Today though is design day, I am putting together a few new pieces and thought I'd share my sketch book snaps with you.

Also here is a little info about the Cabot Circus pop up shop...

Do you have any plans for the 4th of July?

A Theatrical Treat

Well, what a day Friday was! The most memorable wedding I have been to, elegant and fun all rolled into one. The bride and groom are huge musical theatre fans so there was lots of singing and quirky little surprises to keep the guests amused, such as the happy couple walking dancing back down the aisle to "Step in Time" from Mary Poppins. During the speeches about a quarter of the guests did a surprise flash mob style rendition of "Sunrise, Sunset" (the wedding song from 'Fiddler on the Roof') as this was the show that the couple were working on when they met, very moving. We were also able to soak up the splendour of some of Baths glamorous spots, with the ceremony taking place at Bath Assembly Rooms (made famous by Jane Austen), drinks at the Roman Baths and a wedding breakfast and masked ball at the grand Guildhall.

What's the most memorable wedding you have been a guest at?
