Tuesday Treat

Nuts! you are what you eat, right?

So here's a delicious little snack to get you through the day and it will only take about 20 mins to put together. Candied pistachios are yummy and as this little nut is full of goodness you don't need to feel guilty, I think that means you can get a cup of your favourite Starbucks at lunchtime too, don't you?
I have put a link here to a fast and simple Chinese recipe at about.com. I have tweaked it a bit as I can never leave a recipe alone, I added a few fennel seeds to complement the sweet honey.

Cosy up with a letter or two

I absolutely love using text in the work that I do, creating jewellery with little words and messages is something that really appeals to me, so it is no surprise then that I like seeing typography on other things too. I recently discovered a cute Australian store on Etsy that makes gorgeous cushions with writing and maps (another thing I love) on them. This got me wanting to find some diy projects to make my own scatter cushions... but I think I will probably need to purchase a few from my bearded pigeon too, they are just too lovely.

Ok so here are some beautiful and clever ideas from lovelies in craft land...

Design Sponge

Days of Chalk and Chocolate

And here is my work in progress, I thought some quotes on cushions would look pretty damn good scattered on the daybed in my shed. Sorry it's not a great pic, but I think you can see where I'm going with it...

Grab a sharpie and have a go!

Turkey Treat

Morning, OK it's Tuesday and therefore treat day. However, at the moment I am not in the mood for sweet treats so today I am looking for something delicious and savoury. Of course the name treat suggests something you wouldn't have all the time, but who am I kidding, everyday should bring something to make you smile. So today the treat is more about a foodstuff that is a little neglected, but actually is an ingredient that is very versatile, yes, turkey. It is lean, nutritious and not just for Christmas, so substitute red meat with it and cook up a guilt free storm. The following recipes are from a website dedicated to showing you how to use this unloved meat and is all about celebrating the British turkey... I Love British Turkey.

Snapshot Candle Holders

This weekend I took a trip to the coast and snapped these pics of what to me sums up the Great British seaside (that and a sandy picnic & 99 ice cream!!). I was going to print them off and put them on a shelf, but then I remembered seeing some cute ideas for votive candle holders when I was putting together my post about how I heart paper lanterns. So here are a few cute ideas of how to show off your pics without resorting to a standard frame. They would make lovely gifts too, so economical if you recycle old jars and glasses.

Inspired Ideas
Oh, there are one or two other ideas for lighting your mantle which I couldn't resist including too.

Fun Project - DIY Lanterns

Whilst wandering through the town yesterday I kept spotting paper lanterns that I desperately wanted to buy. However, for them to make a real impact I think you need to have lots of different ones all hung together (expensive, right?). So this got me thinking that it might be a nice little project to have a go at, here is a small selection of the best that I have found online. I really could've gone on and on, there are so many pretty ones to inspire you. Take a look at these to start you off, I am going to be making some for sure, especially with all the summer festivities that are coming up!

Tuesday Treat - Fresh & Sunny Salads

I think it is fair to say that there has been a sugar overload over the past few days, so I don't know about you but I am craving something lovely and fresh. I have been thinking about all my favourite places and flavours and put together a selection of lovely links which will leave you feeling healthy and all of a glow. Let these fresh salads take you away to someplace sunny and enjoy a delicious lunch.

Literally A Great Gift!

Wow, what a non-stop week it has been, craft fairs, promoting my jewellery, fulfilling orders, easter egg hunts and more. There has been so much going on that I completely missed a couple of friends birthdays, and that is very naughty of me. However, if you know me well you will know that this is something I am terrible at remembering at the best of times. This is why I have found that it is good for me to have gifts and cards on stand by at all times, I thought that I would share with you a gift idea that I love to give. Books. These are generally a great idea as there is always a book to suit everyone.

For my lovely friend Jai last year I put together a Jane Austen package as I know she is a bit of a romantic. There is a running joke between Jai and myself that we are always dropping everything for tea, so what better gift than tea for two at the Jane Austen in Bath. I also picked up a regency teacup & saucer from an antique centre and a beautiful copy of Pride & Prejudice.

Another literary pressie I put together was for my mum, she loves reading anything with a mystery. What better than a bit of Poirot then, there was recently a production of Death on the Nile at the theatre so some tickets slipped into a copy of the novel was a perfect treat.
Kids also do well from my book scouting, I always think these are great gifts for little ones as they are educational and fun and also space saving for their mums!
A story book is great given with a soft toy that matches a character in the book so that they can play whilst reading. Ruby rabbit is a soft toy I make and she goes down well with little people matched up with a tale about a bunny.

So, next time you are at a loss have a look in your local book store and see what you can come up with. There is bound to be a treat in there for the lovely that you want to treat.

Oh Yes, Rock A Headscarf

I have been so busy this week I have had no time to turn on the computer! It has be such glorious weather and there has been plenty of fun distractions. This week has seen Manolo Blahnik (who lives in my glorious city) bring Bath in Fashion to our streets, it has been a celebration of style from the oh so fabulous vintage to the most contemporary of design. There has been catwalk shows and talks, street style photograph, new designer showcasing and late night discount shopping. On Thursday 'Crew Wench' went goodie bag hunting and had a fab evening. We went from store to store drinking copious amounts of free champagne and schmoozing with all the delightful lovelies, great night had by all. The week was topped off with Vintage Sunday in the lovely Green Park Station, there was a large selection of vintage clothing, afternoon tea and a best dressed competition judged by the queen of vintage Pearl Lowe.
At the fair I went a little crazy for headscarves, there were so many wonderful vintage numbers on offer, I had to purchase a good number for the spring/summer season. Everyone can wear a headscarf, and they should, they are such a great way to instant style. You can wear them in many ways, whether it be in a 40's style turban, 70's bandanna or just roughly tied around your topknot. I have scoured the net and come up with a selection of the best, so take a look, run down to your local charity store and start adding some colour to your life.
